Landfill waste releases harmful greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere in the form of methane, which is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide. The Collaborative is working on increasing waste diversion through composting initiatives, reducing construction and demolition waste, and improving recycling accessibility.

Walking Mountains partnered with professionals in the waste and building sectors to develop a Construction & Demolition Recycling Resource tailored specifically for Eagle County. It lists haulers, drop sites, and tipping fees for each material type, including appliances, wood waste, building materials, asphalt, etc.
Walking Mountains Science Center offers free quarterly tours of the Eagle County Landfill and Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). This is an excellent opportunity to see how the recycling process really works in our county!
